The Core Values Committee believes that Black Lives Matter and that we are all responsible for making our community and university a more just, equitable, and inclusive place.
Who we are
The Core Values Committee is made up of volunteers from across the department, including undergraduate and graduate students, research and instructional faculty, administrators, and advisors.

What we believe
The Department of Microbiology Core Values Committee, formed in 2019, aims to promote a more inclusive and equitable experience for all Microbiology students, faculty, and staff. By encouraging compassion, opening dialogues, and uplifting voices, we seek to bring visibility to sources of inequity and make lasting, adaptive changes to combat them. We aim to provide support, guidance, and access to information and resources associated with equity and inclusion. We strive to be reflective and forward looking in order to create an enduring impact. The Core Values Committee aims to serve as a source of concrete positive change in our classrooms, our department, and our community.
We also acknowledge that Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR is located in the traditional territory of the Chepenefa ("Mary's River") band of the Kalapuya. After the Kalapuya Treaty (Treaty of Dayton) in 1855, Kalapuya people were forcibly removed to what are now the Grand Ronde and Siletz reservations, and are now members of Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians.
