I am conducting research in phycospheric, micro-scale interactions between diatoms and attached/unattached marine bacteria. The goal is to understand the composition, fluctuation, and metabolism of biogenic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced in diatom-bacterial interactions. With these tools I am hoping to investigate the ecophysiology of diatoms and how interactions with other microbes contribute to the global carbon cycle.
