Jesse Zaneveld and Ryan McMinds traveled to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to study Red Sea corals. Working with colleagues at KAUST, the King Abdulla University of Science and Technology, they gathered samples of corals and microbes to compare them with collections from around the world. It's all part of the Global Coral Microbiome Project, a National Science Foundation-funded effort to understand the underlying causes of coral disease at the most critical time in history for this vanishing habitat.
