Research

My research seeks to investigate the disease etiology of Adult Salmon Enteritis (ASE), a condition characterized by ulcerative enteritis and profound inflammation through the intestinal tract, which is associated with pre-spawn mortality (PSM) in spring Chinook salmon. I aim to support the identification of candidate etiological agents of ASE and develop PCR-based rapid ASE detection tools. This work will contribute to our understanding of host-pathogen interactions that may influence premature senescence in adult Chinook salmon. Establishing robust ASE identification and monitoring protocols is essential for developing science-informed management interventions that can support Pacific salmon population recovery in Oregon Watersheds.
