The AAHL gives site visits/tours by appointment, to teachers, students, researchers and members of the community. Site tours are tailored to meet a group's inidividual needs and can include an overview of how the facility works, careers in aquaculture, and hands-on opportunities in the laboratory such as fish dissections, sampling or observing signs of fish diseases under the microscope. Recent visits to the AAHL have included high schools tudents, 4H Inner City Your Institute Students, the Oregon Sea Grant Advisory Council, students from OSU's Aquatic Animals in Health class, Salmon Disease Workshop and Pathogenic Microbes classes as well as students from the Oregon Coast Community College Aquarium Science Program.
The AAHL held its first Open House last year, inviting members of both the academic and general community to visit the AAHL and learn how the facility works and the research projects it supports.
The AAHL in conjunction with Dr. Jerri Bartholomew's Lab hosted their first DaVinci Days booth in the DISCOVER OSU 2013 program. Interactive games and activities were created to introduce the issues our valued native salmon face in terms of disease and health. The weekend was a huge success and the SDL is looking forward to the next DaVinci days.
